Course Description

Interviewing Skills training focuses on the skills required to conduct engaging interviews that include effective questions. This will allow a hiring manager or interviewer to ensure the best practices are followed to hire the right candidates with the applicable skills, behaviour and mind-set.

2 Days

  • Participants will learn how to conquer the podium and deliver presentations that get result. From dynamic introductions to powerful closings, participants will have an opportunity during this training to practice and refine their platform skills.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to make two short presentations and will receive feedback on their current presentation style, as well as ideas to enhance their delivery.

This training is aimed at managers/leaders or people tasked to interview candidates like newly promoted managers, team leaders or very senior managers and leaders.          

  • The training is designed to create an interactive experiential learning environment.
  • The training methodologies consists of individual and syndicate activities, group discussion, interactive games, role-play, case studies, individual and group tasks, exercises, puzzles, quiz, paired discussions, self-analysis questionnaires, observing activities, presentations, experiential learning games, audio video-based discussion, icebreakers, energizers, action planning etc.
  • To help assimilate the tools and techniques learned, there is a mixture of individual and group exercises throughout the training.
  • Whole batch and small team discussions, along with a case study and role play help reinforce concepts learned. Participants need to be prepared for a high level of participation.

 

Day 1

  • Understand and describe core competencies sought in candidates and recognize how they are demonstrated in a job position and the steps involved in evaluating a candidate
  • Identify various types of interviews to determine interviewee’s competence
  • Understand how to structure questions that find out the right kind of information
  • Link interviewing to Competency Model – Learn to formulate behavioural and situational interview questions to identify specific competencies like technical skills, attitude towards work, behaviour skills and communication skills
  • Practice conducting, giving and observing interviews – develop BEI (behavioural event interviewing) skills
  • Understand the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, and Result) technique of answering the questions.
  • Learn how to evaluate, classify and record responses/evidence following an interview according to competency and summarising interviewee’s responses
  • Make objective selection decisions based on the evidence acquired

Day 2

  • Learn to use effective communication techniques when interviewing like developing effective questioning skills – Probing techniques to gather information
  • Know the techniques to check and build understanding – seeking clarification, paraphrasing, summarizing, etc.
  • Learn how to listen more actively and effectively – verbal signs and non-verbal signs of active listening
  • Use a variety of questions to form a comprehensive picture of those you interview developing an understanding of interviewee’s personality types/ social style
  • Self- assessment to find your preferred style
  • Identify the types of interview bias and common interview errors
  • Skill Practice – Practice conducting, giving and observing interviews
  • Preparing an Action Plan – Preparing yourself to interview more effectively
